  2. VS Code is quickly becoming the best text editor for developers, especially with frequent releases from Microsoft which include new/improved features that equal or eclipse the likes of Sublime Text, Notepad++, etc.

Equally impressive is the growing library of solid, well-built extensions that are available for VS Code... Except for a truly good diff tool.

Having used Code Compare both as a stand alone application, and as an add-in for Visual Studio, It is clear that anything like it is sorely lacking for VS Code. Please add a Code Compare add-in for VS Code the same way you've done for…

  4. I prefer to work with scroll syncing disabled and one thing that would help improve that workflow is a function to explicitly sync the opposing file to the specified difference.

Having this be a r-click context menu option would be good, that way I can just r-click a difference icon on the margin and choose "sync" and it will align the opposing file to the difference.

  6. I have a not super unique situation in which I have multiple copies of the same code base for different clients. They all have some version of a master code base, however they are all different in some manner.

In addition, it is not possible to simply version the software and roll it out to each client in version increments. Instead, features and bug fixes need to be pushed back and forth in a cherry picked manner.

I haven't found any tool capable of doing this, so I ended up writing a power shell script to help me manage it.…

  7. Code Compare ignores symbolic links when comparing directories. Why is this?
I use directory symlinks a lot, so I want them to be compared like regular directories.

    Thank you.

  8. It should be possible to save the two paths of a Folder comparison setting in a file. I Need to compare two Folders frequently and find it a bit annoying to have to choose the Folders in the depth of the file System each time.

  10. Please add support for .cvsignore like files.

That's a plain text file where you can add files or folders in the same way we can place exclusion on the Tools/Options/Code Compare/Folder/Filters (wild cards like *.bak should be allowed).

These exclusion will be only for the current folder or subfolders instead of all comparisons we do when we place it on the Preferences of Code Compare.

    Regards,

  13. Trying to create a scoop manifest (https://scoop.sh/) for Code Compare.

Most enterprises restrict/remove Administrator for developers, it will be very useful to be able to install this without requiring Administrator access.

Adding to scoop will enable wide reach of this tool.

I am not sure why Visual Studio integration requires Administrator access, because use is able to do it without Admin rights.

  14. With Visual Studio 2019 for ASP.Net applications they removed the option to "Copy Web Site" from the context menu of the solution in the Solution Explorer. It would be a great feature to have the ability to add the Code Compare "Folder Comparison" to the context menu of a solution.

Code Compare's Folder Comparison is a lot better than the old Visual Studio method of comparing folders.

  15. I have multiple instances of the same code base. Despite searching all over the web for a good way to sync code across these instances when 90% but not 100% of the code is the same, the best I have been able to come up with is doing frequent file and folder compares.

Diffuse is the best utility available currently for something like this. But it is no longer being maintained and suffers from instability issues.

Code Compare is by far the best code file comparison utility available, but it has a limit of three files, and I don't think…

  16. It would be really great to be able to use Code Compare to compare folders (including subfolders) in Source Control Explorer? Code Compare works when comparing files but not folders - for folders the default Visual Studio comparison is used.

  17. New features of the context menu when comparing folders.
"Move to Right/Left" would work similarly to "Copy to Right/Left" with deletion of the original file.
"Replace with Most recent" would copy the most recent file in the other folder compared, regardless of direction, to the left or right.

  18. Using structural compare you're mostly interested in program outcome. As moved blocks(members) do not change the outcome, not being able to ignore them can add to unnecessary noise that makes comparing multiple files a lot more work.

  20. Keys {} around code with one line is unusefull for comparison.

    Keys {
} with line breaks is not a valid diference in csharp.
