CLIENT_INTERACTIVE flag in mysql_real_connect
How about an option in the connection string to mark the connection as an interactive one so that interactivetimeout applies instead of waittimeout?

This may no longer be necessary, as it appears that dbForge for MySQL 7.3 no longer blocks connections in a "Writing to Net" state if the resultset returned exceeds the "Initial Page Size" setting in Tools -> Options -> Data Editor.
