Yup. MySQL Workbench also has this "flat" table editor and I find it much more convenient to use.
It also shows the generated ALTER TABLE statement. -

Fine, and it should still be possible to get the edit popup window.
And something should prevent accidental changes (like checking a checkbox may be done only with double click)
