A toggle would work well, especially if both stacked lines stay synchronized with the selected diff hunk.

A useful implementation would show byte offsets and keep insertions aligned, since a plain hex dump makes shifted bytes hard to compare. Editing could come later.

Three-way folder comparison should use a common base and two changed trees, then show file-level additions, deletions, and conflicts before opening individual files for merging.

Dark mode should cover the diff panes too, including added/removed-line colors and syntax highlighting; otherwise the editor still feels mismatched.

Showing the author beside each changed line would make review much faster, especially when a diff spans several commits. It’d be useful to include the revision or commit ID too, with the author data coming from the selected SVN, TFS, Mercurial, or Git history.
